TIP Digital Phase Demodulator (TIPDPD)

Description
Specifications

The Toroidal Interferometer and Polarimeter Digital Phase Demodulator (TIP DPD) is a custom Xilinx FPGA solution for ITER plasma control that provides accurate electron density measurements. The TIP DPD samples 4 optical detectors, each containing frequencies at 4, 40, and 44MHz and separates them to measure their phase. An industrial host computer runs a custom built application that is used to control the TIP DPD settings and to acquire phase measurements during plasma shots for review. Two version are currently built, the first was built with custom hardware and the second was built with ITER approved hardware. Both systems have shown to have an accuracy better than 0.01 at 500kHz bandwidth.

Key features
  • Phase resolution better than 0.01 Deg.
  • Utilizes a gigabit Ethernet interface to communicate to host machine.
